Born 1995 in a hidden corner of Czechia, surrounded by willful hills and deep forests, the focus of Jakub Sohe’s artistic life is contemplation of the lived experience in and of itself. In his view: "Art is a form of language through which we can communicate beyond the limitations of words."

Personally, his travels and pilgrimages have taken him to many continents and forgotten places, eventually leading him to Devon. Here, his lifestyle provides the space, time, and inspiration to study the visual form through which he reflects. In this process, large and small questions are excavated, meditated upon, and expressed in wonder without the need to prescribe or limit. Process where his art is but a window through which one can look and occasionally see.

“Knowledge and self-reflection are tools through which one can see the fundamental structure of our inner workings - neurobiology, psychology and complex systems science, together with art and mindfulness practices then, are equally important and informative to expressing questions such as, ‘What is worthy of our attention?’ Or what is the nature of being alive?”

Jakub has studied art and design at Ave Art Ostrava with focus across various media, exploring gilding, traditional print techniques, bookbinding, and graphic design. As a tattoo artist, his work has also adorned skin – bespoke abstract designs using minimalist forms, which his clients favour for their self-exploratory experience.

“The deepest form of appreciation is held in time and attention to the work. I find joy in the challenge of creating minimalist pieces with a sense of depth – minimalism, not reductionism, resulting in a subtle yet visually rich experience that symbolises the power of patience, presence, and dedication, in everyday life and in the journey of becoming the best possible self."

In simple terms Jakub’s art is a response to the chaos and busyness of our world where creativity is ultimately about finding balance. His aim is to slow down busy spaces – homes or minds – with subtly mesmerising pieces that make you pause, draw you in, and allow a moment of breath.

That's where quietude begins.
